Watch a still pond when rain begins. Each drop arrives, makes its shape, and is gone. The water does not hold the impact. It does not become the rain.
There is a teaching in this. The mind that grips each passing weather — each thought, each ache — is the mind that mistakes the storm for itself.
The water is not the ripple. You are not the thought. The receiving is the work.
