The Stillness That Was Always Here

Torii

There is a quiet beneath the noise of a day. Not somewhere far. Not somewhere you must travel to find. It rests behind the breath, behind the thought, behind the next thing you were about to do.

Most of life is spent pulled toward what is next — the next message, the next milestone, the next version of ourselves. And in that pull, the present moment becomes a place we pass through rather than a place we live.

But the quiet has not left. It is here, in the small space between the sentence and the silence. It has been here all along.

To return is not to add something. It is to stop adding. To set down, briefly, the long thread of becoming, and to notice — with no purpose, no goal — that you are already here.
